Black-forest cake

Ingredients for  chocolate sponge cake

All purpose flour- 1-1/2 cup

unsweetened cocoa powder- 3/4 cup

baking soda- 1 tsp

baking powder- 1 tsp

vanilla extract- 1 tsp

sugar – 1 cup

oil – 3/4 cup

eggs- 3

1 cup milk

For whipping cream:

1 pint heavy whipping cream

1/2 cup  confectioners sugar

1/2 tsp vanilla

for topping:

Hersheys dark chocolate shavings- 1 cup

pitted sweet cherries- 1 can

Method of preparation:

1)Take a large mixing bowl, add sifted all purpose flour, sifted cocoa powder,baking powder and baking soda.

2)In another bowl, add sugar, eggs, whisk with a hand beater or a stand mixer. Add milk, oil , vanilla essence and  beat for a while.

3)Now add the wet mixture to the mixing bowl of dry flours, and beat with hand beater for a while.

4)Now pour the cake batter into a 9″ round cake pan with parchment paper.

5)Preheat the oven to 375 F and bake for 35-40 minutes.

6)Once the cake is baked, place cake on the cooling rack.

Make whipping cream:

1)To a mixing bowl, add heavy whipping cream , sugar, vanilla extract and whip with a beater until stiff peaks.
2)Place the whipping cream in refrigerator.

For syrup:

1)From the cherry can, separate the cherries and syrup .

2)Take  a pan, add syrup , 1 tsp of sugar and stir for 2 minutes.

For Chocolate shavings:

1)Take milk/dark chocolate and grate them with a vegetable peeler and keep it in the refrigerator.

Assembling the cake:

1)Once the cake cools down cut the cake into 3 equal layers and remove the top crust.

2)Apply syrup on the chocolate cake layers.

3) Take a chocolate layer and spread the whipping cream with a spreader and let it cool for a while in  refrigerator, place the whipping cream in refrigerator for a while.

4) After 5 minutes remove the cake from refrigerator and place the chocolate cake layer and  spread the whipping cream all over the chocolate layer , add cherries on the top. Place it in the refrigerator for 5 minutes.

5) Place the top layer on the whipping cream and spread whipping cream all over the cake using a spreader and finish the cake.

6)Take a ziploc bag and pour the whipping cream and cut the end of bag and place dots on the cake .

7) Place cherries on top of cake and spread chocolate shavings all over the cake .

8) Place in the refrigerator for at least 2 -3 hours and cake is ready to serve.


1)  Add cherry brandy instead of canned cherries syrup.

Serves 6 people.
